ABSTRACT

The school bazaar was held as part of the 9th grade practical exam. The practical exams we carry out are not just bazaars, we also hold art performances for the subject arts and sports. The theme was chosen as Nusantara, which means the name of the Indonesian archipelago. My group took a few days to figure out our sub-theme, but in the end we decided on old school Jakarta. This bazaar material is a combination of all subjects. The aim of this activity was to provide real life experience to the students in doing business, working together in teams, solving problems, and get to know our culture more. This activity is designed so that students can apply the material they have learned by managing their own booth. We sell various products such as food and drinks, accessories, and many more. But there were some items that we didn't sell, and ideas that didn't match our plans.

Our booth name was supposed to be “Cap Cicak”. We were inspired by a popular herbal drink brand “Cap Badak”. We thought that name was easy to remember and creative because it rhymes. But a few of us thought that the name was pretty gross because of the word “cicak” which translates to house lizard. So, we changed our name to “Waroeng Si Oppie”. We thought that the name Waroeng Si Oppie was more presentable and less disgusting. Waroeng means stall but uses the old Indonesian spelling. Meanwhile "Si Oppie" is the name of our mascot. Oppie is a house lizard. We chose the lizard because it was inspired by the name of our old booth, namely Cap Cicak. Other than that, we also think that lizards are funny and unique to be a mascot.

Since this is a collaboration of all subjects there are several subjects that require us to sell products related to that subject matter. To be more specific there are three subjects which are science, civic education, and arts. For science we were learning about biotechnology, so we needed to make one of our products to be a biotechnology product. My group decided to sell organic paint for our paint by numbers. It was made from pandan leaves and different types of flowers. Our civic education material is preserving culture and tolerance. Each tribe in Indonesia has different traditional weapons. A traditional weapon necklace was created to show tolerance and preserve different cultures in Indonesia. Lastly, for the art’s material is Batik. So my group made a pouch with a batik pattern.

Our booths were designed around early November 2024. We designed a simple yet unique booth to attract customers. Since our subtheme was old school Jakarta, we decided to add some ondel-ondel and Monas for our photobooth. But, several changes were made to the booth decoration as the bazaar day approved. For example, we add some windows for our photobooth, we also add some plants and fairy lights. The changes were done by us because the decoration turned out to be too plain. Apart from that, we were just told the position of the booth so there were several things that had to be changed.

Fast forward to January 2025 a few days before our bazaar. It was a crazy week. We were really busy with our product and the decoration for our booth. When we saw our pre order, there were a lot of customers who bought ice lollies. We thought that we needed to prepare another stock. So, additional stock of ice lollies was prepared the night before the bazaar. On bazaar day, the ice lollies didn't freeze therefore we used the ice box to freeze it. It’s a hectic day for us because there was a customer who ordered a lot of drinks. In the end , a lot of profit was earned from the bazaar. The lesson I learned from this experience is that we need to prepare well in advance. So that stuff like this won’t happen again.

INTRODUCTION

In the era of rapidly developing globalization, adaptive and diverse life skills are an important need for individuals, including students at the elementary and secondary education levels. Changes that occur in economic, social, and technological aspects require the younger generation to have critical, creative thinking skills, and be able to work well together. One of the efforts made to create competent students who are able to face the challenges of the times is through an innovative learning approach such as Integrated Learning (IL).

Integrated learning is a learning method that combines various disciplines into one large, ongoing project or activity. This aims for students not only to understand the theories taught in class, but also to be able to apply them in real-world situations. In this process, students are trained to play an active role, both individually and in groups, by directly involving themselves in meaningful learning experiences. In addition to increasing learning motivation, this approach also aims to develop critical thinking skills, problem solving, communication, and collaboration with others.

One example of the implementation of Integrated Learning at the junior high school level is the final project in the form of a school bazaar. This activity was held as part of the 9th grade practical exam and is a real manifestation of the application of experiential learning. The bazaar project not only trains students to learn about the business world, but also integrates various subjects, such as art, science, civics, and entrepreneurship. With the chosen Nusantara theme, students are invited to get to know more about Indonesia's cultural richness while developing relevant life skills.

The implementation of this bazaar includes several main stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. For six months, students are actively involved in designing the bazaar concept, determining the products to be sold, decorating the booth, and conducting promotions and sales on the day of the event. In this process, various skills such as time management, creative thinking, effective communication, and problem solving are tested and honed. Students are also faced with real challenges, such as managing a budget, dealing with customer requests, and overcoming technical obstacles that may arise during the activity.

Through this bazaar activity, students not only gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, but also valuable experience that can help them in their daily lives. This project provides an opportunity for students to develop their potential, instill values of discipline, responsibility, and build independence that will be useful for their future. Thus, integrated learning plays an important role in creating a young generation that is competitive and ready to face global challenges.

Background

Globalization has brought about major changes in various aspects of our lives, from economics, technology, to education. This rapid development requires individuals to have broad and adaptive skills in order to compete in an era that continues to develop. This is expected to be possessed by every student. One of them is realized through Integrated Learning. Encouraging innovation in students in various fields.

Integrated Learning is a teaching and learning approach model that pays attention to and adapts to the level of development of students. Allowing students, both individuals and groups, to play an active role through direct experience in their learning process. With this, students can increase their learning motivation and develop critical and creative thinking skills.

This IL comes from the latest curriculum, namely Merdeka, which involves several fields of study into inter-subjects and between subjects. Giving freedom to educators and participants so that they develop varied and innovative learning models, and to improve the quality of learning.

Same as at Santa Ursula Middle School, Jakarta. One example of its manifestation in grade 9 is the final project in the form of a bazaar. Starting from preparation, implementation to evaluation of reports. In facing this IL, students will go through various challenges and situations that hone students' skills. It is an opportunity for students to develop their potential with life skills such as communication, problem solving, time management, critical thinking, creativity and cooperation. This project is implemented for 6 months with a structured schedule. Sharpening students in exemplary and disciplined.

Thus, integrated learning has an important role in developing students' skills and potential.

Research Objectives

Our objectives in implementing this integrated learning project are as follows:

  • To understand what the objectives of implementing Integrated Learning are.

Research Benefits

The benefits of implementing our integrated learning project are as follows:

    For Student Implementers
  • This activity is useful for developing students' potential and life skills.
  • This activity is useful for fulfilling Integrated Learning assignments, namely bazaars and web reports.

    For Student Viewers

    For Visitors
  • This activity is useful for getting to know and enjoying the archipelago again through the bazaar that is held.

Activity Planning

In this IL project, we have to prepare the products that we will sell for our bazaar store. Since the overall theme of our bazaar is Nusantara, and the theme we chose is Betawi, we decided to sell items that have a Betawi feel and are liked by buyers. We sell herbal medicine, es cendol, es lolly/monas frozen, jipang/rice krispies, klepon, crocodile bread, drawstring bags/magic oppie bags, paint by numbers, and kajineman. Of the total products that we sell, we sell 4 types of food, 2 drinks, and 3 types of goods that contain a Betawi feel.

Production Planning
Promotion Planning
Booth Planning

To further enliven our products and booth, we prepared several ways to promote them. We chose Instagram and TikTok as the main social media platforms for promotion because many students from Santa Ursula and other schools use these platforms. On our Instagram with the username @waroengsioppie, we uploaded a product catalog poster containing photos and names of our products, contact details, and our logo. In addition, we also uploaded descriptions of each of our products on the next slide. We also made a banner for our special product, herbal medicine. Before uploading the poster and banner, we uploaded a coming-soon banner on our Instagram to build anticipation for our booth. In addition, we uploaded several stories on our Instagram as a means to provide information to our followers about our booth and also to promote and build anticipation for our products.

We also uploaded several short videos to our Instagram and TikTok with the username @waroengoppie to promote our booth. So that people who come to our bazaar are more interested in the products we sell, we also promote them via Whatsapp. We created a message on Whatsapp that included important information such as our social media links, contact person, location and date of our bazaar, and links to pre-order our products. We also included our slogan, “Cicak cicak di dinding, tempat cocok buat kamu ngkring!” to make the message look more attractive.

In planning the booth, we have a plan to decorate our booth according to our theme, namely NUSANTARA, especially we chose the Betawi theme. Before we made the booth, we made a sketch to make it easier for us to decorate the booth. After making the sketch, we immediately prepared the materials needed. We decorated our booth with items that we already had and used items such as cardboard. We thought about decorating our booth with items that are usually used in Betawi houses, we also had time to discuss making a photo booth, we also planned to make a cashier sign and menu sign to show the items we sell to buyers. At first we planned to make a photo booth with ondel-ondel standees, wajik balang teeth, and several stars.

As time went by we had plans to change the decoration of our booth, because the properties or tables given for our bazaar booth did not match our expectations. We plan to make our booth with pipes installed on the table except for the wajik balang teeth, we still want to make the props because the wajik balang is a property that is very typical of Betawi and fits into our theme, besides the wajik balang teeth, we also still make ondel-ondel which we plan to name Azril which is displayed in front of our booth, then we also thought about changing our photo booth by making a Monas and balloon letters, then we also thought about making our shop writing, Waroeng Si Oppie, with cardboard.

The location of our booth was chosen by drawing lots, and we got a position in front of the entrance of our school hall. Our booth used two school desks measuring 60 cm x 120 cm. To make our booth more attractive, we used a red and white checkered patterned coaster, we also decorated our booth including a teapot, ring light, fairy lights, typical Betawi house windows, and cashier signs. We also displayed ondel-ondel that we had made in front of our booth, flowers in front of our booth stand, and installed the gigi balang wajik that we made in front of our table. In addition to gigi balang wajik, we also put an orchestra stand in front of our booth to put our posters. Then some of our products such as klepon, jipang, and crocodile sandwich bread were placed neatly in front of the table, while herbal medicine was placed on a drink coaster and for kajineman and drawstring bags we put them in a basket, we also put Qris on our table.

Activity Results

Activity Report

After months of preparation and anticipation, the day we had all been waiting for finally arrived on January 16, 2025. A few days earlier, we had agreed to wear white t-shirts as tops and batik wrap skirts as bottoms for the bazaar. This outfit choice was not only to highlight Indonesian culture through batik, but also to ensure comfort and ease of movement while selling.

On that much-anticipated morning, we received an announcement from Mr. Agus that all bazaar stands would be allowed to start serving customers at 11:00 AM. However, quite unexpectedly, many visitors began arriving even before 11:00. Most of them were our juniors who were on their first break at 9:00 AM. With a bit of regret, we had to inform them that we could not begin transactions yet and kindly asked them to return during the second break.

When it was finally time to open our booth, we began serving customers warmly and started the buying and selling process. The first product to sell out completely was *Monas Frozen*. Because of its popularity, we had to turn down a few customers who were still asking for it. At that point, the product was already sold out, and we were waiting for the next batch from one of our group members, Grace, who was in charge of making it.
While waiting for the new stock of Monas Frozen, we focused on promoting our other products using two different approaches: soft selling and hard selling. Soft selling is a subtle and friendly marketing method that does not pressure customers, such as answering their questions politely and offering extra information. Hard selling, on the other hand, is more direct and assertive, like shouting promotional phrases in the middle of a crowd.
Eventually, one by one, our products began to sell out. Just as we finished selling everything else, the long-awaited batch of Monas Frozen finally arrived. Unfortunately, by that time, Mr. Agus had already told all participants to begin cleaning up their booths. Even so, we did not give up. We continued offering Monas Frozen to visitors who were still walking around the bazaar area. Thankfully, many of our friends, probably tired from selling all day, came over and bought the rest until it sold out completely.
After that, we quickly worked together to clean up the booth. Some of us packed up the sales items, while others cleaned the area to make sure we did not leave any trash behind. We stacked the tables, rearranged the chairs, and slowly took down all the decorations. Once everything was neatly packed and the booth area was clean, we got ready to take our belongings and go home. Although the day was exhausting, we felt proud and grateful to have gone through the entire bazaar experience together.

R E F L E C T I O N

Based on KBBI (Indonesian Dictionary), aspiration means desires that are always in the mind or the final goal. This is usually related to future careers and long-term targets. Aspirations are important in providing direction and focus to a person's life, without aspirations a person may feel lost or live without direction. Through aspirations, we can build a spirit of life and become more positive because aspirations encourage us to understand ourselves more deeply and to know the final goal we want to achieve. Finally, as a motivation to achieve achievements and success in various areas of life.

Through the bazaar experience and group performances, we learned that achieving goals requires real effort and careful planning. Here are five concrete examples of what we have done:

Usaha Kami Menggapai Cita-Cita

Determining the Priority Scale

Determining the priority scale is one of the important parts in the contents of a mature plan. It means knowing which parts are more important and priority than others; this helps manage time more effectively and easily.

Cooperating and Collaborating

Through the process of facing the bazaar and group performances, we learned that cooperation and collaboration between each other increases work efficiency, creativity, productivity and uniqueness. All of these things can accelerate the achievement of our aspirations. Finally, cooperation can ease the process of achieving aspirations.

Developing a Disciplined and Never-Give-Up Attitude Within Yourself

The existence of a disciplined attitude through our group work experience teaches that responsibility and consistency can accelerate the achievement of goals so it is very important to have in achieving our aspirations. Then, a never-give-up attitude within yourself is very important in facing challenges before achieving success. As during the process in IL, of course, you will go through several failures and problems. However, this does not stop the achievement of IL's final goal, which is a smooth bazaar and collaboration of performances.

Regularly Praying Throughout the Process

Through prayer, you can gain peace and confidence in future results, thereby fostering enthusiasm in facing challenges.

Building Self-Confidence

Building and increasing self-confidence is very important because it can make us more confident and focused in making decisions and have clear and positive thoughts. Through the process of facing the bazaar and group performances, we learned that self-confidence can allow us to express ourselves more fluently (such as in giving ideas, implementing, planning, etc.) which can facilitate communication and appear more optimally in the future.

Aspirations are a direction for steps, a guiding star in the darkness of life's journey. It is not just a dream, but a goal that gives meaning to every effort, every sweat, and every prayer that is said. In planning the future, humans do not walk alone. God also proclaims how important it is to plan life wisely. In the Holy Bible, there is much advice that emphasizes the importance of vision, goals, and long-term planning. Here are three quotes from the Holy Bible that emphasize the importance of planning for the future:

Proverbs 16:3

“Commit your works to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”

This verse shows that planning is an important part of life, but it must be accompanied by surrender to God's will. When aspirations and efforts are combined with faith, the results will be blessed.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

This verse confirms that God himself has a beautiful plan for every human being. So, we are asked to make plans that are in line with the values of hope and peace.

Luke 14:28

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”

Here, Jesus emphasizes the importance of careful planning before starting something. This teaches that big goals require calculation, perseverance, and serious preparation.

The bazaar we held gave us a lot of benefits, and one of the biggest ones was financial. But more than that, it gave us the chance to share our blessings with others, especially those who are small, weak, poor, marginalized, and disabled. As a class, we agreed to donate part of our profit to an orphanage. In total, Class 93 donated Rp 1.500.000,00, which was split evenly between all groups. That means each group donated Rp 250.000,00. On February 21, 2025, some of us went to visit Rumah Hati Suci Orphanage. We met the kids there and were taken on a tour around the place. They told us about how the orphanage started, who lives there, and what the kids daily lives are like. We were amazed by how well the place is run and how much love and care is given to every child there. Hearing the stories of why some of them ended up there was really touching. It opened our eyes and made us realize how lucky and blessed we are. We also got to visit Hati Suci School, which is right next to the orphanage. The school has everything from kindergarten to high school. Some of the students live in the orphanage, and some are from outside because the school is open to the public. This whole experience meant a lot to us. It was not just about giving money, it made us reflect and be more thankful for what we have. We also realized that caring for others is not just something you talk about in class, but it is something you really have to do.

Besides the group donation, each of us tried to give back in our own way too. Audrey bought toys with her profits and donated them to a Sunday school for kids with disabilities. Vallerie used her share to buy food and gave it to a deaf scavenger near her house. Tri supported local small businesses by buying traditional cookies from UMKM sellers, helping them earn more in the middle of their struggles with competition, lack of funding, and limited tech access. Grace gave her profits to a homeless man with a physical disability. Joanna bought clothes and donated them to a nursing home. And Ega set aside part of his profits for the APP (Aksi Puasa Pembangunan) box. The donations that have been collected in those little boxes are handed over to the church at the end of the lent to be distributed to those in need.

Conclusion

Based on the report that we have made, it can be concluded that this activity is very useful for us. This activity can improve the skills of students in communication, problem solving, time management, critical thinking, creativity and cooperation. Through this IL project, students can also learn about production planning, promotion, decorating, and booth management effectively.

This Bazaar project not only has a positive impact on us. 9th grade students get direct experience in managing a business, while 8th and 7th grade students can be inspired to get to know Nusantara culture more deeply. The school also benefits by seeing more real learning outcomes and increasing awareness of the importance of preserving culture in the school environment.

Although there were several challenges during the implementation of the bazaar, all of that could be overcome with good teamwork. It is proven by the many products that ran out quickly. Thus, this bazaar was a success. This activity can not only help in lessons but also in the character of students.

Suggestions

Based on the bazaar that we have done, there are things that we want to improve for the future. One of them is communication between group members, so that coordination in preparation and implementation can run more smoothly. In this bazaar there was miscommunication between members so many problems started to appear. With good communication, the division of tasks will be clearer and there will be less miscommunication. Not only communication, we also need to improve time management, both in the planning process, booth decoration and during the implementation of the bazaar. Good time management will ensure that all tasks can be completed properly and efficiently and reduce delays. By improving communication and time management, the bazaar can run better.
